Old County History
Much more detailed accounts of the club’s history can be found in the books Our First 21 Years (1986), Reflections (2006) and Put it in Writing (2016). However, here’s a quick snapshot of some important moments down through the years.
1966
The club was formed on the 10th October, 1966, in the County Bar on Old County
Road.
1967
The first AGM was held on16th January. Later that year, the club became resident in O’Toole Park. C. J. Byrne became Old County’s first Juvenile member.
1968
Joe Fox elected first Captain of Old County. Elsie Toner became the first female
member of the club.
1970
Jim Grace designed the club crest.
1975
Eva O’Byrne appointed first Lady Captain.
1977
The redeveloped course opened for play on St. Patrick’s day.
1997
The club secured a 99 year Sporting Lease for the course.
2005
The club hosted the National Juvenile Strokeplay and Intercounty Championship.
2008
Christy Broe inducted into the PPUI Hall of Fame.
2015
The club hosted the National Over 55’s Strokeplay Championship.
2016
Jim Byrne inducted into the PPUI Hall of Fame.
